Bathrooms in Our Campervans

How do we use the bathroom? It’s a common question we get as guests start planning their Montana campervan adventure. Before diving in, we’ll share why we did not build bathrooms in our van conversions.

Simply put, no one wants to sleep where they poop. We want your campervan experience to be a great one, so managing smells and sanitation are big priorities!

Where can I use the bathroom?

Most guests are staying at established campgrounds where vault toilets are available. Your van will be stocked with extra toilet paper, wipes and hand sanitizer. If you’re spending a lot of time on the road, you’ll have access to gas stations, rest stops, restaurants and bars along your route. Grab a snack, coffee or beer while you’re passing through Montana’s small communities and take advantage of their restroom facilities during your stop.

For guests prepared for a dispersed camping experience, each Tierra Traveler van is stocked with a portable camp toilet with double doodie bags. Because of sensitive environments and increased pressure on public lands, we recommend packing out your human waste instead of burying it. If you’re in a situation where you just have to go, use the Leave No Trace principles and carry your toilet paper out in a double bagged setup. Not following these principles could pollute water supplies, cause disease to spread, and attract unwanted wildlife.

We understand this is the less-glamorous side of van-life, but we hope these tips put you at ease. We’re here to help as you prepare for your campervan rental experience.
